Your learning objective for this assignment is to research the situation of one group in the USA that does not enjoy equal rights because of who they are. You are advocating for diversity appreciation and advocating for your group with a specific audience, so it is OK to take a position, but you must include research that supports your arguments. You must choose from the list below. If you want to present on a different group, please contact Dr. B before moving forward.

You must think about your audience as the presentation is directed to them! Perhaps, I have an interest in elder rights and to educate about the richness they bring to society. I could present my research to a high school or college class or my city council members. So, after you choose your topic, collect your facts/demographic data, and images with your audience in mind. Go back to our workshops for inspiration.
Here is an example…I live in a town with many Syrian refugees. Our region is very homogeneous (white and Catholic). It’s a shock for some citizens to meet Muslim women in the grocery store or to see a group of Syrian men walking together.
I might do a presentation to the community that provides information about the war in Syria and the hardships these people went through to live safely. I then would illustrate the ways their presence in our community enriches life for all of us. My goals would be to (1) educate (2) break down barriers (3) build community (4) reduce stereotypes (5) create opportunities for friendship, neighborhood cooperation, etc.
Follow the guidelines we shared in the Research & Writing Workshop. The general rule is 6 information points with 6 words, and 1 image for each slide. Do not “waste” any slide by only having an image or a couple of bullet points. Twenty-one slides are the absolute minimum. Significant points will be lost for shorter presentations.
You need 20 slides minimum and then at least one slide for all your References. Please include a short citation at the bottom of each slide so we know the source right away.
Slides are due on Monday, so everyone has time to review and respond to your presentation. Late slides lose 10 points per day.
